When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular company. On their end, three records are set up automatically when the domain address is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain address where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that manages the e-mails for that particular domain name. The site and the email hosting are usually considered to be one thing, while they're in reality two different services. Having separate records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you want. For example, some new service provider might have excellent uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain to the first and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an email - in either case, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting account through our company and you wish to direct either your website or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it is going to take you literally just two clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it will not take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up isn't going to take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will remain active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is really easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are managed using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you may click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not encounter any problems if you decide to point your site or e-mails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. When necessary, you could also create additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
