Setting up a CNAME record for each of the domain names or subdomains you've got in the hosting account will permit you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain will lose all its records - A, MX etc, and will take the records of the Internet domain it is being redirected to. In this light, you cannot set up a CNAME record to point your domain name to a third-party provider and keep a working email service with the first hosting provider. It is also very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it is generally mistaken for the A record of the domain being forwarded. One of the primary uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain address which you own through one provider to the servers of another provider when you have created an Internet site with the latter. This way, the website will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which we provide with each and every Linux hosting package, will permit you to set up CNAME records for every domain address or subdomain hosted in the account with just a few mouse clicks. If you're not sure how to go about it, you can check out the video tutorial that's available inside the CP, read the in depth Help article on the subject, or you can simply contact us and we can assist you 24/7, even though it is unlikely that you'll experience any problems as all it takes to set up a new CNAME record is to select a domain/subdomain, type in the hostname you're redirecting to, and save the change. The new record will be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records enables you to have better control over your domain names and site content and our system is simple and intuitive enough to allow people who have no previous experience to create such records with ease.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to create a CNAME record with ease. Whether you want to create a private URL for your emails, to forward a domain name to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not require more than 3 clicks to create such a record. All DNS records for the domain addresses and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so when you're there, all you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video within the Control Panel on how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
